Locals Oppose 24hr McDonald's Proposal in Balgowlah

Writer: Ty BombardierTy Bombardier

A proposed 24-hour McDonald’s drive-through at 37 Roseberry Street, Balgowlah, has sparked significant backlash from local residents. The $3.9 million development application seeks to demolish the current Seven Miles Coffee Roasters site to make way for the fast-food restaurant, but community concerns are mounting.

Critics have raised alarms over potential traffic congestion, with the already busy intersection of Sydney Road, Roseberry Street, and Kenneth Road being a focal point. Many residents fear the drive-through would worsen delays and disrupt the local area’s peace.

Further objections center around the impact on the neighborhood’s character, with some locals worried a McDonald's could bring unwanted late-night activity and promote unhealthy eating habits, especially given its proximity to several schools.

The development application is still under review, with ongoing community feedback expected to influence the final decision.
